The Culinary Arts pathway at the Pike Career and STEM Center is perfect for students who are passionate about cooking and interested in the hospitality industry. This program introduces students to career paths, industry responsibilities, and the fundamentals of managing kitchen operations. Students learn food preparation techniques, proper sanitation, and safety protocols while gaining hands-on experience using professional kitchen equipment.
Students also explore baking science fundamentals, including ingredients, measurements, and equipment care. The program emphasizes leadership, human relations, and personal management skills that are essential in fast-paced culinary and hospitality environments. Through real-world learning, students gain experience managing and cooking for the on-campus Red Zone Café, giving them authentic industry exposure.
The Culinary Arts pathway offers multiple certification and credential opportunities, including:
- ServSafe Food Handler (Year I)
- ProStart Certification Level I & II (Capstone)
- Ivy Tech Dual Credit (College Credit)
- Career Readiness Training
These certifications provide students with a competitive advantage and prepare them for both college and immediate workforce entry.
